Your inputs stay in your browser. No account required. Character counts use Unicode code points. Reading: 200 words/minute. Speaking: 130 words/minute.

How to use this tool

  1. Paste one item per line.
  2. Choose alphabetical, numeric, length-based, or random order and set trimming or duplicate removal as needed.
  3. Run the sort and inspect the list before copying.

Formula & method

Alphabetic sorting uses locale comparison. Numeric sorting requires every line to be numeric; length sorting counts code points. Random order uses a Fisher–Yates shuffle. Trimming and duplicate removal run before sorting.

A practical example

Numeric ascending sorts 2, 10, 1 as 1, 2, 10. Alphabetical sorting would place 10 before 2.

When this tool is useful

Order a simple list of labels, compare numeric values, or group lines by length for editing. Treat each line as a complete record; the tool does not parse a spreadsheet into separately sortable columns.

Common mistakes and limitations

  • Numeric mode requires every line to be a valid number; remove labels and empty lines first.
  • Alphabetic and numeric order differ: a text sort can place 10 before 2.

Frequently asked questions

How does numeric sorting treat commas?

Commas are removed before numeric conversion. This supports grouped values such as 1,000, but is unsuitable when a comma is intended as the decimal separator.

Is random order suitable for a security-sensitive draw?

No. The shuffle is intended for ordinary list rearrangement and does not provide an audited or cryptographically secure selection process.
