Formula & method
Lines are compared after optional trimming and case normalization. Preserve first keeps the earliest occurrence; preserve last keeps the final one in its original relative order. Ignoring empty lines removes them from the output.
A practical example
Apple, apple, and Banana on separate lines become Apple and Banana when Ignore case and Preserve first are selected.

- Ignoring case can merge identifiers that a receiving system treats as distinct.
- The comparison covers the whole line; matching one column of a CSV requires a separate column-aware process.
Frequently asked questions
Will removing duplicates sort the list?
No. Deduplication retains the relevant original order. Use Sort Lines afterward if alphabetical or numerical ordering is also needed.
What is the difference between preserving first and last?
Preserve first retains the earliest occurrence. Preserve last retains the final occurrence and its relative position among the surviving lines.
