How to use this tool

  1. Enter a start date and an end date.
  2. Choose whether to include the end date in the count.
  3. Calculate and distinguish the calendar year/month/day breakdown from total elapsed days.

Formula & method

Calendar years, months, and remaining days are calculated separately from total elapsed days. Month arithmetic clamps to a valid end-of-month date. Including the end date adds one calendar day to the interval. Times of day and local clock changes are excluded.

A practical example

From 1 January to 31 January there are 30 elapsed days. With the end date included, the count is 31 days.

When this tool is useful

Compare project dates, count days between events, or check a calendar interval. When a form asks for total days, use that result rather than converting the calendar-month breakdown using a fixed month length.

Common mistakes and limitations

  • Elapsed days and inclusive calendar dates are different counts.
  • This tool ignores time of day. A daylight-saving change does not change its calendar-day result.

Frequently asked questions

Why are there 30 days from January 1 to January 31?

There are 30 elapsed day boundaries between the dates. Including the end date counts 31 calendar dates instead. Choose the convention your task requires.

Is this a working-day count?

No. All calendar days are included. Use Working Days Calculator when weekends or a holiday list must be excluded.
