How to use this tool

  1. Select the calculation country and the currency used for your amount.
  2. Choose Add tax for an exclusive amount or Remove tax for an inclusive total.
  3. Confirm the rate against the linked official guidance, or enter a custom rate.
  4. For India, choose the supply type; calculate and inspect the base, tax, and total.

Formula & method

To add tax, multiply the base by the selected rate and add the tax. To remove included tax, divide the total by 1 + rate/100. Only the India profile splits intra-state GST into equal CGST and SGST, or displays IGST for inter-state supplies. Other country profiles show the total transaction tax. This does not determine product classification, exemptions, tax credits or filing obligations.

A practical example

At an entered rate of 18%, a base amount of 1,000 currency units produces 180 currency units GST and a 1,180 currency units total. For an intra-state supply, the illustration splits tax into 90 currency units CGST and 90 currency units SGST.

When this tool is useful

Check the arithmetic of adding transaction tax to a base price or extracting included tax from a total. The country profile changes the displayed tax conventions; it does not classify goods or determine whether a transaction qualifies for an exemption.

Common mistakes and limitations

  • Do not subtract the tax percentage directly from an inclusive total. At 20%, the base of 120 is 100, not 96.
  • Country presets are starting inputs, not a determination of the rate applicable to your transaction.

Frequently asked questions

Does changing currency select the correct tax law?

No. Currency is a display choice and the country profile controls calculation conventions. The applicable rate still depends on the actual transaction, location, date, and relevant rules.

Why does India show CGST and SGST?

For the intra-state option, the tool divides the entered total GST rate into equal components. The inter-state option displays IGST. Other country profiles display the total transaction tax instead.
