An energy-only estimate at your flat rate. Fixed charges, slabs, taxes, and duty are not included.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the energy rate per kWh and the number of billing days.
  2. For each appliance, enter its wattage, quantity, and daily operating hours.
  3. Calculate and compare appliance contributions to the period total.

Formula & method

For each appliance, daily kWh = watts × hours per day × quantity ÷ 1,000. Sum all appliances and multiply by the flat rate per kWh. The selected billing days determine the period estimate; annual figures use 365 days. Rated wattage can differ from actual consumption.

A practical example

A 75 W fan used eight hours daily consumes 0.6 kWh per day. At 8 currency units per kWh, it costs 4.80 currency units per day and 144 currency units over 30 days.

When this tool is useful

Estimate how a fan, lamp, or other appliance contributes to energy costs, or compare shorter operating hours with the current routine. Appliance-level estimates are most useful for understanding which inputs drive consumption.

Common mistakes and limitations

  • Watts measure power; kWh measures energy used over time. A 1,000 W device running for one hour uses 1 kWh.
  • The flat-rate model excludes tiered tariffs, standing charges, taxes, demand charges, and time-of-use pricing.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the estimate differ from my utility bill?

A bill may include fixed charges and multiple rates, while devices may cycle on and off or draw less than their rated power. The tool uses your entered wattage and operating hours.

How do I estimate a device that does not run continuously?

Use a measured average consumption when available or adjust operating hours to represent active use. A plug-in energy meter can provide a more realistic input than the maximum label wattage.
