Distance and fuel price follow the selected units. MPG uses US gallons. Round trip is two one-way trips; total cost uses your trip count.

Подробные методы и примеры доступны на английском.

Step-by-step instructions (English)

  1. Enter one-way distance and select kilometres or miles.
  2. Choose the efficiency unit and enter a matching consumption value.
  3. Enter fuel price using litres or US gallons, then set the number of one-way trips and passengers.
  4. Calculate fuel required, total fuel cost, and the per-person share.

Формула и метод

For km/L, fuel equals distance divided by efficiency. For L/100km, fuel equals distance multiplied by efficiency and divided by 100. US MPG is converted to km/L using approximately 0.425143707. Multiply litres by price and trip count to estimate total cost.

Практический пример

A 200 km trip at 15 km/L requires approximately 13.33 litres. At 100 currency units per litre, one trip costs about 1,333.33 currency units before tolls and other costs.

When this tool is useful

Estimate fuel spending for a commute or shared road trip. Compare scenarios using realistic consumption rather than an ideal rating, and use the passenger field when everyone is splitting fuel equally.

Common mistakes and limitations

  • A return journey needs two one-way trips if the distance field contains only the outward leg.
  • US MPG uses US gallons. An imperial MPG rating is not the same unit.

Practical questions about this tool (English)

Are tolls and parking included?

No. The estimate covers fuel only. Add tolls, parking, rental fees, and other travel expenses separately when preparing a complete trip budget.

Why can a lower efficiency number mean better mileage?

In L/100km, a smaller number means less fuel consumed for a fixed distance. In km/L or MPG, a larger number means more distance for each unit of fuel.
