Los métodos detallados y ejemplos están disponibles en inglés.

Step-by-step instructions (English)

  1. Paste or type the text you want to measure.
  2. Read the word, character, line, and paragraph totals as the text changes.
  3. Use reading and speaking time as estimates, and inspect frequently used words when editing.

Fórmula y método

Words are identified using the locale-aware Intl.Segmenter API. Characters are Unicode code points, lines are newline-delimited, and paragraphs are separated by blank lines. Reading time assumes 200 words per minute; speaking time assumes 130.

Ejemplo práctico

A 400-word article has an estimated reading time of two minutes. The estimate does not account for reading difficulty or individual pace.

When this tool is useful

Check an essay length, prepare a short talk, or compare the size of two drafts. The word frequency list can highlight repetition, while paragraph and line totals describe the structure of the pasted text.

Common mistakes and limitations

  • Word boundaries depend on language and segmentation rules, so another editor may report a slightly different total.
  • Reading time assumes 200 words per minute and speaking time assumes 130; neither measures a particular person.

Practical questions about this tool (English)

Why can word counts differ for Chinese or Japanese text?

Words in these languages are not normally separated by spaces. The tool uses locale-aware word segmentation rather than treating every space-delimited sequence as one word.

Does the counter read words from an image or PDF?

No. It counts the text entered in its text area. Extract or transcribe text first if the source is an image-based document.
