How to use this tool

  1. Select an image and choose exact dimensions, a percentage, or a preset.
  2. Choose Fit, Fill, or Stretch according to whether you can accept cropping or distortion.
  3. Resize and inspect the resulting dimensions and framing before downloading.

Formula & method

Fit scales proportionally within the chosen bounds; fill scales and center-crops to exact dimensions; stretch changes width and height independently. Percentage mode scales the original dimensions. Size presets are configurable starting points, not permanent platform requirements.

A practical example

Fitting a 1,600 × 900 image inside 800 × 800 gives 800 × 450. Filling those bounds gives an 800 × 800 center crop.

When this tool is useful

Prepare a thumbnail, a profile image, or an asset with a specified pixel size. Choose the resizing mode based on the receiving layout: preserving the whole image and filling an exact rectangle are different goals.

Common mistakes and limitations

  • Upscaling adds pixels but cannot recreate original detail.
  • Presets are convenient starting dimensions, not a promise about current requirements on every social platform.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Fit and Fill?

Fit keeps the entire image within the bounds while preserving proportions. Fill produces the exact bounds by scaling and center-cropping, so some edges can be lost.

When does Stretch make sense?

Stretch forces width and height independently. Use it only when changing proportions is intentional; otherwise people, circles, and logos can look distorted.
