How to use this tool

  1. Paste the complete JSON document or value.
  2. Select Validate and run the check.
  3. Read the parser error and line or column information when available, fix the input, and validate again.

Formula & method

Validation parses the entire input as JSON. A valid document can be an object, array, string, number, boolean, or null. Errors are reported using the JavaScript parser message and line/column information when available.

A practical example

{"name":"Aman"} is valid JSON. {name:"Aman"} is invalid because JSON object keys require double quotes.

When this tool is useful

Troubleshoot a rejected API body or a configuration file that will not load. Validate the actual copied payload, including quotes and commas, rather than a shortened fragment that may hide the problem.

Common mistakes and limitations

  • JSON property names and string values require double quotes; single quotes belong to other syntaxes.
  • A successful syntax check does not verify business rules, required fields, or the trustworthiness of the values.

Frequently asked questions

Can a JSON document be just a number or null?

Yes. Standard JSON allows an object, array, string, number, boolean, or null at the top level. Your consuming API may impose stricter requirements.

Why can the reported error position be after the mistake?

The parser points to where it can no longer continue. A missing quote, comma, or bracket earlier in the input can make a later character appear to be the problem.
